STATEMENT FROM SEAN ELDRIDGE ON HOUSE PASSAGE OF HR7

(Kingston, New York) – Statement from Sean Eldridge, candidate for Congress in New York’s 19th district, following the passage of HR7 in the House of Representatives this evening.

“Today Congressman Gibson voted for a bill that would effectively eliminate abortion coverage for millions of women. When our country faces so many important challenges, Congressman Gibson and John Boehner are focused on restricting women’s healthcare and reproductive freedom instead of working to move our country forward by rebuilding our infrastructure, investing in job training, or raising the minimum wage.

“This is not the first time that Congressman Gibson has voted to restrict women’s healthcare and reproductive freedom. He voted to defund Planned Parenthood, and last June, he voted for a bill that would prohibit abortions after 20 weeks.

“I am proud to support reproductive freedom, and I would never vote for legislation that would harm women’s health or infringe on personal freedoms.”

In December, Planned Parenthood Action Fund endorsed Sean Eldridge for the U.S. House of Representatives, praising his unwavering support for women’s health and marriage equality in New York, and noting that he will be a champion for protecting the health care of thousands of women, men, and families in upstate New York who receive it from Planned Parenthood.
